So the latest season of the walking dead has been exploring the zombie way of life, depicting their animal-like tendencies of hunting by smell and in packs. furthermore, the zombies have also been depicted, more than once, as being curious of its surrounding, looking around at items and pulling at doorknobs.
This has left me if not a little perturbed as it indicates that indeed, the zombie brain is more complex than we had first thought (and seen in season 1).
this made me realise that perhaps the key to surviving this apocalyspe not only lie in bad-ass brain kicking weaponary and strategic locations, but perhaps also in the more subtle understanding of how zombies actually operate.
hence, introducing: the Zombie Research Society where, under their three foundational principles, they strive to help humanity understand and survive the inevitable.
The ZRS Principles:
1) A zombie is a biologically definable, animated being occupying a human corpse.
2) The zombie pandemic is coming. It’s not a matter of if, but a matter of when.
3) Enthusiastic debate about zombies is essential to the survival of the human race.
Become a member of ZRS, and add your insights to the greater zombie discussion. The life you save may be your own.

This is an actual paper from a team at the University of Ottowa, who have used the hypothetical situation of a zombie outbreak to examine some mathematical models for controlling the spread of infectious disease. Awesome. Check out the paper in its entirety here.
Article 249
It shall also be qualified as attempted murder the employment which may be made against any person of substances which, without causing actual death, produce a lethargic coma more or less prolonged. If, after the person had been buried, the act shall be considered murder no matter what result follows.
It’s against the law in Haiti to turn somebody into a zombie, as it should be.
“So Resident Evil 5 exposes the perhaps uncomfortable truth that blacks and Arabs can become zombies too, just like anyone else. Blacks and Arabs do not have a secret anti-zombie gene. And just like all the thousands of white, Asian and Hispanic zombies that have been dispatched in innumerable other games before them, the African zombies must also be destroyed, or at least neutralized.”
this is an important piece of information. my survival planning will have to take into account of this new threat. zombies from the middle east will be harder to identify due to the fact that they are usually wrapped in layer upon layer of clothing. perhaps I’ll need to invent a zombie goggle with heat detection or something. the dry climate will not help with decomposition either. I say, when the time comes, keep out of that region altogether.
this chart practically illustrates the fact that corporate exectives are zombies based on their body weight to brain size ratio.
A philosophical zombie is a concept used in the philosophy of mind, a field of research which examines the association between conscious thought and the physical world. A philosophical zombie is a hypothetical person who lacks full consciousness but has the biology or behavior of a normal human being; it is used as a null hypothesis in debates regarding the identity of the mind and the brain. The term was coined by philosopher David Chalmers.

A very rare kind of undead star 30,000 light years away caught astronomers’ attention this month by vomiting up masses of x-rays and gamma rays so rapidly that it shocked researchers.
This kind of neutron star is known as a magnetar. It’s the dense, burning remains of a dead star that spins extremely rapidly (one rotation every 2.7 seconds!) and shoots out energy in ultrafast, ultrahot bursts.
According to Scientific American:
Dubbed SGR J1550-5418, the object lies in a small southern constellation called Norma. The designation SGR reflects the object’s classification as a soft gamma repeater, an even rarer category of magnetar that fires off irregular bursts of x-rays and gamma rays … “At times, this remarkable object has erupted with more than a hundred flares in as little as 20 minutes,” Loredana Vetere, a research associate at Pennsylvania State University who works on the Swift project, said in a statement. “The most intense flares emitted more total energy than the sun does in 20 years.”You can see a video of what the magnetar looked like as it blew off so many particles over a matter of days.

There’s zombie planets?
hmm… undead space dust. I’m just saying.
